  35. WHAT IS ADRIFT SCREENSAVER
  36. ----------------------------
  37.  
  38. Adrift ScreenSaver is a 32bit Windows 95 screensaver.
  39.  
  40. Adrift draws floating lines across the screen, creating beautiful patterns
  41. while you are not using your computer.
  42.  
  43. Adrift starts a new pattern every minute.
  44.  
  45. Supports 16 color VGA, 256 color SVGA, and 24-bit color.

  48. INSTALLATION
  49. ------------
  50.  
  51. 1. From the directory you have decompressed into, copy the file adrift.scr
  52.    into your windows\system directory, usually c:\windows\system.
  53.  
  54. 2. Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  55.  
  56. 3. Double click on the Display icon.
  57.  
  58. 4. Click on the Screensaver tab.
  59.  
  60. 5. In the Screen Saver list, select Adrift.
  61.  
  62. 6. Click Preview to run the screensaver.
  63.  
  64. 7. Press Settings to display registration and support details, and access
  65.    configuration options.
  66.  
  67.  
  68. Once you have Adrift running, you do not need to keep the other files on
  69. your system. i.e. you just need adrift.scr installed in your Windows or
  70. Windows\System directory.
  71.  
  72. SETUP OPTIONS
  73. -------------
  74.  
  75. Configuration options are available from the Control Panel/Desktop/Setup
  76. screen by pressing the Options button.
  77.  
  78. HIDE MOUSE
  79.     Selecting this option means the mouse cursor will disappear while the
  80.     screensaver is running.
  81.  
  82. STAY ON TOP
  83.     This is useful when you have a menu bar, clock, or other program which
  84.     normally stays visible over all other windows, including screensavers.
  85.     Select this option to have Adrift cover these windows. Its use is not
  86.     recommended if you have other programs running which can periodically
  87.     display a message (such as Mail, a Reminder or other scheduled program),
  88.     as you will not see these messages. Also in these cases, the other program
  89.     will have control of the keyboard, even though it is not visible, so
  90.     pressing Escape will clear the message rather than stopping Adrift, and
  91.     you will not get to see the message.

  93. IGNORE MOUSE FOR WAKE-UP
  94.     Selecting this option means only use of the keyboard will stop the
  95.     screensaver. It's useful if your mouse likes to move of its own accord, or
  96.     is easily bumped. Not recommended if you are also using Stay on Top.

  99. RUNTIME OPTIONS
  100. ---------------
  101.  
  102. While the screensaver is running, the following keys can be used:
  103.  
  104. F5   The current drawing will Finish.
  105.  
  106. o    Displays an order form, which can be printed.
  107.  
  108. p    Pressing p will cause Adrift pause at the end of the current
  109.      drawing,  and not continue until you press 'p' again. This is useful, for
  110.      example,if Adrift is drawing something slowly, and you would like to
  111.      see how it ends up, but you have to leave the room for a while. Or if you
  112.      would like the chance to copy it to the clipboard when it's finished
  113.      before it gets overwritten. It doesn't pause immediately, but at the end
  114.      of the current drawing. When you have finished with the paused screen,
  115.      press 'p' again to start Adrift off again.
  116.  
  117. +    If you are running in 256 color mode, then Adrift uses 'sliding' colors
  118.      to animate the image. Pressing + will increase the speed of the
  119.      animation.
  120.  
  121. -    Decreases the speed of the animation.
  122.  
  123. n    Stops all animation for the current run. Useful if it is too distracting
  124.      while you work.

  126. SAVING IMAGES
  127. -------------
  128.  
  129. Pressing the PrintScreen function key will copy the full screen to the
  130. clipboard, and you can then paste that into a paint program and save or
  131. print the image.

  140. Adrift ScreenSaver is time-limited "try before you buy" software, and is
  141. provided with a 14-day evaluation period. After 14 days, Adrift will no
  142. longer run create patterns, but will display an order form.
  143.  
  144. On receipt of your registration fee, you will be mailed, faxed or emailed a
  145. code which will allow the program the resume displaying patterns. This
  146. registration code is entered into the Registration field on the Setup screen.
  147.  
  148. Your support through registration is appreciated and will encourage the
  149. development of additional graphics and features.
  150.  
  151. If you wish to use Adrift after 14 days, please send a cheque for
  152. US$13.95 (or its equivalent in your currency) to:

  174. form can also be displayed and printed from the Control Panel Setup screen, or
  175. by pressing 'o' while Adrift is running.

  178. on-line on Compuserve.  After logging on to Compuserve, GO SWREG, and
  179. request ID 14123.

  181. In order to keep the cost of Adrift low, diskettes are not sent.

  183. These prices and conditions are valid until 31st January 1998 for this version,
  184. and are subject to change with future versions.

  186. If you have already paid a fee to others (eg disk or CD vendors) to obtain
  187. this evaluation copy, that fee was for their copying and distribution
  188. services, rather than a payment for continued use of the program, and the
  189. software author does not receive any part of that fee.

  231. sent, so if you have not received your code within 2 working days, please

  236. OTHER CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

  239. Credit card payments may also be made directly to Seraline, using VISA,
  240. Mastercard, or Australian Bankcard. A printable order form in MS Write format
  241. is in the file order.wri, which can then be faxed or mailed to Seraline. An
  242. order form can also be printed from the Control Panel Setup screen, or by
  243. pressing 'o' while Adrift is running.  The details required are your name,
  244. Credit Card type, card number, card expiry date and your signature.  These
  245. details can be mailed, or faxed to Seraline in Australia +61-2-9879-4481.

  247. When ordering directly from Seraline, credit cards are billed at exactly
  248. $17.95 Australian.  For other currencies, the amount appearing on your card
  249. will depend on the foreign exchange rate at the time. For example, at rates
  250. current in November 1996, this converts to an amount varying around US$13.95.

  255. EMAIL REGISTRATION

  258. Due to the number of different computers messages pass through on the
  259. internet, email security can be a concern.
  260.  
  261. You may like to split the details over several email messages. Avoid mention
  262. of words like "credit card", and use an abbreviation for the credit card type,
  263. eg V for Visa or M for Mastercard.  Send the expiry date in a separate
  264. message, and split the card number over several messages, but ensure there is
  265. some sequence number that makes it obvious to us what the sequence is.

  267. Emailing credit card details using any method is at your own risk.

  274. Adrift ScreenSaver is NOT a public domain program.  It is copyrighted by
  275. Seraline Pty Ltd.  This software and accompanying documentation are protected
  276. by Australian copyright law and also by international treaty provisions.
  277.  
  278. The registration fee will license Adrift ScreenSaver for use on any
  279. computers in your home, and on one computer at work on which you are the
  280. main user.
  281.  
  282. Seraline Pty Ltd grants you a limited license to use this software for
  283. evaluation purposes for a period not to exceed fourteen days.  If you continue
  284. using this software after the fourteen-day evaluation period, you MUST make a
  285. registration payment to Seraline Pty Ltd.

  287. You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile, disassemble,
  288. otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed program except as
  289. provided in this agreement.  Any such unauthorized use shall result in
  290. immediate and automatic termination of this license.

  307. cause crashes, because of the extensive calculations and graphics and many
  308. permutations, it may still crash occasionally due to incompatibilities with
  309. video drivers.  You should use the evaluation period to check that
  310. Adrift does not cause problems with your system.
